The Lionchu or the Lionhead-Ranchu goldfish is the result of crossbreeding between the Lionhead and the Ranchu goldfish. This fish combines the traditional characteristics of both Ranchu with a deep body, broad and curved back and tail placement has been merged with the large head-growth of the Lionhead.

Unlike their Japanese ancestors, the Lionchu has no dorsal fin. This goldfish originates from Thailand and was popularized by a group of goldfish hobbyists from Singapore.

It can grow up to 6 inches and can live 10-15 years in well maintained goldfish aquariums. As all goldfish, the Lionchu eats all kinds of foods, but loves veggies and fruit. The most common colors are orange, red-and-white, yellow and other bi-colored variaties.

Mixing

Because of its body type and twin-tails, the Lionchu is one of the goldfish that will not win any races when it comes to food.

The best tank mates for the Lionchu are the Fantail, Black Moor, Oranda or Ryukin goldfish. Do not mix with other fast varieties like the Common, Comet or Shubunkin goldfish.

Flo
